Distribution; Northwest Pacific temperate waters/south eastern~eastern south sea of Korea including Jeju Island, Japan and South China Sea. General; Anterior body depressed, posterior body compressed. Head strongly depressed. Eyes located on dorsal part of head. Infraorbital canal with short ventral branch. Snout protruded, mouth small and located under snout. Preopercle spine long and curved upward with 2-4 serra on inner side . Spines of first dorsal fin without filamentous extension. Without spine on anal fin. Brown in ground color with scattered dark blotches, whitish ventrally. First dorsal fin with black distal margin in adult males, and with large black blotch margined by white on 3rd membrane in adult females and juveniles. 2nd dorsal fin with some dark spots in females. Anal and caudal fin with a broad distal black streak. Caudal fin with small dark spots on upper half. Inhabits shallow sandy bottoms of bays.
