Distribution; Northwest Pacific/southeast and southern coasts(Busan to Pohang) of Korea, west coasts and pacific coasts of south of Hokkaido Japan, Taiwan, and East China Sea General; The shape of the body similar to Smallmouth argentine(Argentina kagoshimae), but upper jaw of Smallmouth argentine protruded very slightly forward than the lower jaw, whereas the lower jaw of Glossanodon semifasciatus protruded forward clearly than the upper jaw. Cross section of head almost square. The body is cylindrical, slender and long, and the cross section of the body is oval, close to a circle. The eyes are large and the space between the eyes is flat. Snout distinctly longer than eye diameter. The mouth is slightly large, and the upper jaw has no teeth, and the lower jaw has a row of fine cone-shaped teeth. Anal fin base length equal to or shorter than dorsal fin base length.
The back of the head is dark yellow and about 8 dark brown spots on the back. In the center of the body side, a wide, metallic silver horizontal line runs from the back of the gill cover to peduncle. The belly is silvery-white. Anal fin base shorter than dorsal fin base. The fins are colorless and transparent, but it looks dark because of the scattered small black dots. The caudal fin is slightly darker. The rear edge of the caudal fin is deeply indented. The scales are cycloid and deciduous. No scales on the head. The dorsal side of the head reveals ossified plate-like scales. The bladder is rather large.
It is a deep-sea fish that mainly inhabits the edge of the continental shelf made of sandy mud at a depth of 70 to 200 m. It feeds on small crustaceans, fish, and small squid floating in the water. The spawning season is from February to April and August to October, and it spawns twice a year, and one individual lays eggs several times during the spawning period. When they reach 2 years of age(about 13cm in body length), they start spawning, and the number of eggs per time is about 1,500 to 3,000. The eggs do not float in the water, eggs are sticky and sinking property, they sink and attach onto the surrounding reefs or algae. Lifespan is about 3 years. Used for food.
