Petroscirtes breviceps(Valenciennes, 1836) 11cm TL
D/spine 10-12, soft ray 17-21. A/spine 2, soft rays 18-21. P2/spine 1, soft ray 3.

Order Perciformes Family Blenniidae (Combtooth blennies)
Striped poison-fang blenny mimic(or Black banded blenny)
Petroscirtes breviceps(Valenciennes, 1836) 11cm TL
Korean name; Du-jul-be-do-ra-chi
D/spine 10-12, soft ray 17-21. A/spine 2, soft rays 18-21. P2/spine 1, soft ray 3.

Distribution; Indo-West Pacific/Southern sea including Ul-leung Island and Jeju Island of Korea, south of central Japan, Taiwan, China, New Caledonia. Papua New Guinea, East Africa.
General; Body without scales. Elongated body, round head, compressed body and peduncle. Without cirri on head, 3 sensory pores on dorso-head. A pair of fang tooth on each jaw posteriorly. With small cirri on sensory pores of lower jaw. Opercle opening is small. The spine part and soft ray part of dorsal fin is continuous without notch. Margin of caudal fin concave in males, truncated or slightly convex in female and juveniles.

Back ground color is pale yellow. 2 dark, broad stripes from snout to caudal fin, upper stripe runs central axis of body from snout through eye to caudal fin. Lower stripe runs ventral side from lower jaw to caudal fin. Stripe may be broken into segments. A similar dark stripe on base of dorsal fin that makes as if there are 3 stripes on body.

Adults inhabit coastal reefs and estuaries to depths of about 10 m. May also be found up to 15 m depth in coastal and lagoon reefs in sandy and weedy areas. They also take shelter and nests inside small-necked bottles and abandoned worm tubes or shells. They feed on small crustaceans, diatoms, and perhaps other plant material.

Has a pair of large fangs in the lower jaw used to defend itself. They use their fangs defensively and will not hesitate to bite if handled, however the fangs are not venomous. Mimic of Meiacanthus grammistes, which like all species of that genus possesses a pair of large grooved fangs in the lower jaw with associated venom glands, thus, species of this genus are avoided by predators. Oviparous. Males uses shells but also ring-top cans for nesting. Eggs are demersal and adhesive, and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal. Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters.
