분포; 인도-서태평양/말레이시아, 필리핀, 일본, 남쪽으로는 오스트레일리아 까지 분포한다.
일반개요; 색상과 무늬 패턴은 환경에 따라 변화가 크다. 몸이 반투명하며 전신에 깨알 같이 아주 작은 수많은 까만 점들이 기본 탕에 흩어져 있다. 그 바탕 위에 약간 큰 반점들 산재하며 척추골 축을 따라 7개 정도의 검은 “ㅡ” 자 모양의 반점 무늬들이 늘어서 있다, 점들이 노란 색소나 백색 색소를 가질 때도 있다. 주둥이 측면에 황갈색 선 무늬가 있다. 수평열 비늘 수는 24-27개이다. 머리와 목덜미에도 비늘이 있다. 아가미구멍이 짧으며 가슴지느러미 기부쪽에서 열려있다. 연안 암초 지대 10-30m 수심에서 항아리 해면에 붙어서 산다. 여러 마리가 무리로 있을 때가 자주 있다.

Distribution; Indo-West Pacific/Malaysia to Philippines north to Japan, south to Australia.
General; Characterized by semi-transparent body with fine dark speckling; side of snout with brown stripe; internal brown, dash-like markings with white or yellow pigment along dorsal edge of vertebral column; but variable in color and patterns according to environment it occupies.   Longitudinal scale series 24-27; scaled head and nape; restricted gill opening to pectoral fin base; depth of body at anus 5.0-7.7 in SL. Inhabits coastal slopes, usually on barrel sponges in 10-30 meters depth. Often in groups.
