분포; 인도•서태평양/인도, 타일랜드, 말레이시아, 인도네시아, 필리핀, 뉴기니, 솔로몬, 바누아투, 오스트레일리아 대보초에 분포.
일반개요; 유어와 수컷은 밝은 적색 내지 적갈색 바탕이며 암컷은 검어진다. 3개의 좁은 백색 띠가 있다. 뺨에 두 개의 긴 가시가 있다. 수컷은 암컷보다 훨씬 작다. 1~18m 수심 범위의 암초지대에서 말미잘 벌브 텐타클(Bulb-tentacle: Entacmaea quadricolor)과 공생한다. 동물플랑크톤과 바닥 해조류를 주식한다. 난생이며 알은 바닥에 붙여 낳는다. 수컷이 알 둥지에 물바람을 불어 산소 순환을 촉진시켜주면서 알을 지킨다.
※인도네시아 수마트라 섬 북쪽에 있는 안다만 제도와 니코바 제도에 사는 스파인취크 아네모네피시는 백색 띠가 아닌 노랑색 띠 무늬를 가지고 있다. 전혀 외관이 달라서 종이 다른 것으로 알려져 있다가 스파인취크 아네모네피시(Premnas biaculeatus)로 확인되었다.

인도네시아 수마트라 섬 북쪽에 있는 안다만 제도와 니코바 제도에 사는 스파인취크 아네모네피시는 암수 모두 백색 띠가 아닌 노랑색 띠 무늬를 가지고 있다. 전혀 외관이 달라서 종이 다른 것으로 알려져 있다가 해부학적 연구 결과 스파인취크 아네모네피시(Premnas biaculeatus)로 확인되었다. 왼쪽; 암컷. Left/Female. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific/Indo-Australian Archipelago including India, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Great Barrier Reef.
General: Has two preopercular spines, upper spine prominent and extends across the head-bar. Juveniles and males bright red to brownish red, females become maroon to nearly black, males are much smaller than females, with 3 narrow white to gray bars. Live in Bulb-tentacle Anemone(Entacmaea quadricolor) to 18m. Feeds primarily on zooplankton and benthic algae. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate. Males guard and aerate the eggs.
※Fish from Sumatra, the Andaman Islands and Nicobar Islands have yellow body bars on both males and females. This distinctive feature meant they were previously considered a separate species
