(*출처); “Fishes of Japan with pictorial Keys to the species, English edition 1. Oder Scorpaeniformes Family Family Sebastidae(Rockfishes, rockcods and thornyheads). Distribution; Northwest Pacific/South Sea of Korea, from south of hokkaido to Kyushu of Japan. The upper and lower jaws, vomer, and palatine bones are equipped with small teeth. Both gill covers are separate from each other and are fused at the isthmus. The jaws are scaleless, while the rest of the head and body are covered with ctenoid scales. The lateral line is complete and distinct, starting from above the posterior end of the gill cover and extending to the base of the caudal fin. The origin of the dorsal fin is slightly anterior to the posterior edge of the gill cover. The last spine of the dorsal fin's spinous portion is longer than the one immediately preceding it. The heights of the spinous and soft-rayed portions of the dorsal fin are similar. The length of the base of the dorsal fin's spinous portion is longer than that of the soft-rayed portion. The origin of the dorsal fin's soft-rayed portion is anterior to the origin of the anal fin. The pectoral fin is slightly below the center of the body, and its posterior end reaches the anus(*pectoral fin source). The origin of the pelvic fin is distinctly posterior to the origin of the pectoral fin, and its posterior end does not reach the anus. The pectoral fin has usually 17 soft rays. The uppermost one ray is unbranched, the 7 rays below it are branched, and the 8 rays at the bottom are unbranched. The posterior edge of the caudal fin is slightly rounded. (*pectoral fin source); “Fishes of Japan with pictorial Keys to the species, English edition 1. Edited by Tetsuji Nakabo, Tokai University Press” The body color is pale yellowish-brown to light yellow, with 4 to 5 irregular vertical dark bands on the body and caudal peduncle. The dark color of these bands extends indistinctly onto the yellow background of the dorsal, anal, and pelvic fins. The caudal fin also has dark spots arranged in a pattern, creating a harmonious overall appearance. Several radial dark bands extend from the eye. This is a medium-sized type of rockfish, measuring 30 to 40 cm. It inhabits coastal rocky reefs and is a sedentary species that barely migrates. It is ovoviviparous, giving birth to young from November to January. A single adult can give birth to about 30,000 juveniles. It can survive the winter in fish cages, and its sedentary nature makes it highly effective for coastal resource enhancement and increasing fishery production through juvenile release programs. Due to severe resource depletion from overfishing, the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute of Korea has been releasing 100,000 juveniles into coastal waters annually since 1994. Its excellent taste makes it popular in Korea for sashimi, grilling, steaming, and fish porridge. The Misnomer of the Korean name Hwangjeom-bollak"(황점볼락) " |
