분포; 동인도•서태평양/한국의 남해, 일본 중부 이남, 남중국해, 인도양 동부에 분포.
일반개요; 몸과 머리는 측편되었다. 몸의 바탕색이 매우 옅은 노랑색이다. 배쪽은 은백색. 체측에 너비가 넓은 4개의 적갈색 또는 진홍색 수직 무늬가 있다. 몸의 비늘은 눈 위 중앙까지 있다. 전새개골 우하단부에는 비늘이 없다. 입이 작다. 안하골 가장자리 뒤쪽에 톱니 모양의 거치가 있고 전새개골에도 거치가 있다. 가슴지느러미는 길며 뒷지느러미 기부에 이르거나 초과한다. 배지느러미는 항문에 이르거나 거의 이른다. 수심 10~150m의 모래, 개펄 바닥에 서식하며 소수의 무리를 짓는다. 저서 무척추동물을 주식한다. ※ monocle: 외알 안경

Distribution: Eastern Indian and Western Pacific Oceans/South Sea of Korea, South of central Japan, South China Sea, Sri Lanka and Andaman Sea.
General: Body and head compressed. Pale yellowish body, silvery below. Body with 4 reddish-brown or red vertical bands when alive. Scale area on head reaching middle of eye. Lower limb of preopercle naked. Posterior margin of suborbital fine serrated with a very small spine at upper corner. Pectoral fin long, reaching to or beyond level of anal fin. Pelvic fins long, reaching to or almost to level of anus. Mouth small. Inhabits sandy or muddy bottoms in 10~150m depth. Usually in small groups. Feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates.
