분포; 인도•태평양/일본 남부의 이리오모떼 섬(Iriomote Island), 류구열도, 오스트렐리아 대보초, 동아프리카, 프렌치 폴리네시아까지 포괄하는 인도•태평양에 분포.
일반개요; 몸이 길쭉하다. 등쪽은 노랑색 내지 녹황색을 띠고 배쪽은 청색 내지 청자색(bluish pink)을 띠지만 상황에 따라 빠르게 색조 변경을 나타낸다. 암초 위 허공에 있을 때는 밝아지고 구석에 은신해 있을 때는 색이 어두워진다. 5~30m 수심의 암초사면에서 무리지어 플랑크톤을 먹고 산다. 난생이며 알은 바닥에 붙여 낳는다. 수컷이 알 둥지에 물바람을 불어 산소 순환을 촉진시켜주면서 알을 지킨다. ※푸질리어(fusilier)는 세줄가는돔과(family Caesionidae) 어류의 통칭 영명이다. 푸질리어는 영국이나 프랑스의 옛 보병 군대를 말한다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific/Ryukyu Islands, Australia GBR, French Polynesia, and East Africa.
General: Body very elongate, color variable, often greenish yellow dorsally, bluish pink ventrally. When feeding on plankton above reefs it is silvery green, and darkens when sheltering on the reefs. Current-swept seaward reefs in 5~30m depth. Forms aggregations. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate. Males guard and aerate the eggs.
